Background
My experience in the computer software
industry began in 1978 with the multi-user mini-computer and quickly moved to the emerging
personal computer market based on the DOS operating system. This experience continued into
local area networking, Microsoft Windows, client-server technology, object-oriented
development, and the Internet. |
Comdex Spring 1988, Atlanta, GA
Reveille Custom Accounting Software
Microx, Inc. |
I conceived and managed the design, development, and
production of "Reveille Custom Accounting Software," a
commercial "shrink-wrapped" accounting product for PC networks. This included
both the management of and participation in coding, technical support, and dealer
training. This product was developed using Revelation 'G' on a Novell network. |
Byron Shindler, Regional Systems Manager
Houston Business Center
Revelation Technologies, Inc. |
In November of 1988, I joined Revelation
Technologies as a Technical Sales Representative. The company was interested in
building a domestic field sales force based on a consultative style of selling utilizing a
high degree of engineering expertise. Working directly with the
development lab, I wrote the first complete SQL demonstration application using the Gupta
SQLbase server with Advanced Revelation and its new "Environmental Bonding" data
integration technology.
|
In April of 1990, I was promoted to "Regional
Systems Manager" and given the responsibility of building the sales support,
technical support, and training services of the "Houston Business Center" which
was opened in June of 1990. In August of 1990, Revelation Technologies
became the first Microsoft Business Partner representing the Microsoft SQL Server. As
Revelation Technologies continued to expand the SQL integration of the Advanced Revelation
product line, I attended Microsoft University for "Transact-SQL" and "SQL
Database Administration" classes. I later wrote and delivered technical presentations
on client-server technology using the Microsoft SQL Server, Micro Decisionware Gateway for
DB2, Sybase, and NetWare SQL.
In December of 1991, Revelation Technologies introduced OpenInsight for Windows.
I converted several in-house applications to the new Windows product. Using this
experience, I consulted customers and prospects in understanding the paradigm shift from
DOS to Windows development.
In August of 1994, I started my consulting service in Austin, Texas.
Projects include the maintenance of legacy Advanced Revelation applications, migration of
Advanced Revelation Applications to OpenInsight, research on object-oriented development
methods, and Internet applications.
In August of 1998, I relocated to Houston, Texas.
